S.H. the 14th Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso, describes himself as a simple Buddhist monk. He is the spiritual leader of Tibet and was born on July 6, 1935 into a farming family in a small village in northeast Tibet. At the age of two, the child, then named Lhamo Dhondup, was recognized as the reincarnation of the former 13th Dalai Lama, Thubten Gyatso. His goal is to achieve complete enlightenment and be reincarnated to help everyone in the world.

Why compassion is essential in these troubled times

S.H. Dalai Lama is the spiritual leader of Tibet and speaks with actor and chairman of the “International Campaign for Tibet”, Richard Gere, about the situation in Tibet and the rich cultural and philosophical heritage that has been preserved there for centuries. Afterwards, S.H. Dalai Lama gave a lecture in which he emphasized human compassion and explained how values are taught today and what could be improved. He talks about different religions and cultures and their differences, but also about the similarities and the importance of education and tolerance in order to overcome differences. The 21st century could be a century of compassion.
